The official handing-over ceremony of equipment for conducting of the population and housing census 2020 took place in Dushanbe

 

Under the frame of the new project – “Strengthening Demographic Statistics in Tajikistan”, funded by the Government of the Russian Federation, the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) transferred 420 tablets, 100 notebooks and 80 multifunction printers  to the Agency on Statistics under the President of the Republic of Tajikistan for the needs  of the upcoming Population and Housing Census.

 

The event was attended by Consul Ambassador of the Embassy of the Russian Federation in the Republic of Tajikistan Shamil Foatovich Shamsutdinov, Director Statistical Agency under President of the Republic of Tajikistan Hasanzoda Gulnora Kenja, staff of these institutions and representatives of the media.

 

«Through the close cooperation, we will be able to achieve success in conducting such an important event as the Population and Housing Census. Thanks to the acquired tablets, laptops and printers, for the first time in the country, surveys will be conducted using digital technologies, including Internet surveys, which will facilitate faster and more accurate data collection. ” - Emphasized by Ms. Hasanzoda Gulnora Kenja.

 

It should be noted that in the framework of the upcoming 2020 Population and Housing Census, three types of data collection would be used. . The paper-based questionnaires predominantly will be used in the rural areas, while internet and tablet based questionnaires will be used in the cities of the country.

We hope that our help will help raise the implementation of this important nationwide event to a new technological level, the results of which will determine the datum of Tajikistan's development for years to come." - Noted Mr. Shamil Foatovich Shamsutdinov.

 

The main goal of the project is identify/address demographic data related gaps and improve data use for planning, programming, budgeting and investments.

 

The Government of the Russian Federation has allocated $ 2.15 million to support this project.
