On December 18, 2020 the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) conducted the official ceremony of the progress review of Project - “Strengthening Demographic Statistics in the Republic of Tajikistan” for the period 2020-2023. The Government of the Russian Federation has allocated US $ 2.15 million to support this Project.
The Project is aimed at developing the National potential of Tajikistan on enforcement of demographic statistics to improve long-term forecastings and support in conducting of the PHC in the Republic of Tajikistan, which happened October 1-15, 2020. The beneficiaries of the Project are the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade of the Republic of Tajikistan, the Ministry of Labour, Migration and Employment of the Republic of Tajikistan, the research Institute of Labour, Migration and Employment of Population, the Agency on statistics under the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, Institute of Economics and Demography of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Tajikistan.
During the meeting a general presentation on Project activities made by UNFPA and the partners of the Organization will make presentations on the results achieved in 2020 and planned activities for 2020. In addition, the first official meeting of the Project’s Coordination Council conducted.
The event attended by Igor Lyakin-Frolov - the Ambassador of the Russian Federation to the Republic of Tajikistan, Ashurboy Solehzoda - the First Deputy Minister of the Economic Development and Trade of Tajikistan, Nodiri Shahnoza -Deputy Minister of Labour, Migration and Employment of Population of the Republic of Tajikistan, Kiyomiddin Davlatzoda - Deputy Director of the Agency on Statistics under the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, Farida Muminova- head of the sector of statistical research instruments of the IED NAS RT, Moyonsho Mahmadbekzoda -Head of the Scientific Research Institute of Labour under the Ministry of Labour, Migration and Employment, Nargis Rakhimova- UNFPA Tajikistan Head of Office, as well as officers of the above organisations.
“The Russian Federation has allocated US $ 2.15 million for the implementation of this project. Such substantial support from our side reflects the strategic nature of the partnership between Russia and Tajikistan in the field of long-term development, as well as strengthening of the scientific potential of the Republic in the field of demography and statistics, ”noted Igor Lyakin-Frolov.
