20 September, 2017, Dushanbe, Tajikistan – Ministry of Health and Social Protection of Population of Tajikistan conducted a meeting with national and development partners to review and finalize the Family Planning Action Plan for the period 2017-2020.
The ceremony was attended by Dr. Umarzod Saida Gairat, First Deputy Minister of Health and Social Protection of Population (MoHSPP) of Tajikistan and Ms. Mieko Yabuta, United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) Country Director for Tajikistan, medical specialists, government and development partner’s representatives.
The Family Planning (FP) Action Plan was developed by the national working group under the MoHSPP and is based on the assessment of the current situation of FP services and practices in Tajikistan conducted by the MoHSPP with the support of international and national experts. Key interventions were then identified and budgeted to facilitate the coordinated work by the MoHSPP and other relevant institutions, including Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Education and Science, Committee on Women’s and Family Affairs and development partners to strengthen the FP services in Tajikistan.
Recognizing the need for further improving Family Planning programme and responding to the need of the population MoHSPP has worked with many partners including UNFPA and USAID to develop the Costed Implementation Plan (CIP) for Family Planning. This plan is based on the discussions and collaborative efforts of these partners, and other stakeholders making use of a situation analysis conducted by a team of prominent national consultants and an international expert, during October-November 2016.
According to the estimates, investing 1,927,705 USD into the FP programmes during the period of 2017-2020 will bring a savings of 2,402,972 USD in health services, during the same period, with a lag of 1-3 years, i.e., for every dollar invested 1.25 USD will be saved (25% return within one to three years). In the long run, every dollar spent on these interventions will help save 97.27 USD only in education sector.
