Annual review of UNFPA activities in Tajikistan in 2017 was held in Dushanbe on December 8.

Traditionally, the meeting was held at the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade (MEDT) of the Republic of Tajikistan, coordinating the activities of UNFPA in Tajikistan, with active participation of the permanent national partners of UNFPA from the Majlisi Namoyandagon Majlisi Oli of the Republic of Tajikistan, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Health and Social Protection, the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Tajikistan, the Committee for Religious Affairs and Ordering of Celebrations and Rites under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan, the Committee for Women and Family Affairs under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan, the National Reproductive Center and the State Agency for Statistics under the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, as well as a number of non-governmental and partner organizations. Representatives of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Tajikistan and the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Tajikistan were invited as new partners.

In their speeches, the partners noted the high level of cooperation with the United Nations Population Fund, as well as joint activities aimed at promoting the SDG. As UN Resident Coordinator, UNDP and UNFPA representative in Tajikistan, Ms.Pratibha Mehta noted: "The country's strategic vision is formed and depends on the rapidly changing geopolitical, global economic and technological landscape. In order to meet the challenges and effectively use the opportunities for sustainable development and intensify its actions, Tajikistan needs to focus on innovation and partnership, which is the main focus of UNFPA and national partners."

Ms. Khairiniso Yusufi, Deputy Chairman of the Majlisi Namoyandagon of Majlisi Oli of the Republic of Tajikistan, stressed in her speech that in the global world there is an increasing understanding that the solution of the problems of an individual, community, nations and states is possible only as a result of joint efforts and joint actions aimed at innovation and partnership for the benefit of the individual and humanity.

The review was focused on innovation and partnership to achieve Sustainable Development Goals. Thus, a number of partners, including law enforcement agencies, are involved in fighting with gender-based violence. New technologies, such as internet surveys, Global Positioning System (GIS) and electronic technologies (tablets) are planned to be exploited in the forthcoming census of 2020, local NGOs and communities are engaged in civil registration system reform, a project on cervical cancer targeting the rural population was launched, a joint national implementation plan for family planning services with the cost estimates for the period of 2018-2021 was developed and implemented, as well as development of communication strategy for the implementation of this program was started.
 

This annual event is carried out within the framework of the Country Program of the United Nations Population Fund in Tajikistan for the period of 2016-2020. Such regular meetings help to exchange information, improve coordination in joint activities, increase the effectiveness of joint programs and are indicators of the organization's transparent work to contribute to the achievement of national development strategies and programs.
